DEPUTY VICE CHANCELLOR’S PROFILE

Felix Kanungwe Kalaba is a Professor of Ecosystem Services and Climate Change and serves as Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation at Mukuba University. He previously held senior academic leadership positions at the Copperbelt University, Zambia, including Director of the Directorate of Research and Dean of the School of Natural Resources. Professor Kalaba holds a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from the Copperbelt University, a Master of Science in Forest Science from Stellenbosch University, and a PhD in Environment from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom.

With over 20 years of experience in natural resources management and climate change adaptation, Professor Kalaba is an accomplished scholar and thought leader who has published widely in peer-reviewed journals, policy briefs, and book chapters. He has extensive experience working at the science–policy interface and has contributed significantly to national, regional, and international climate policy processes. He is a Lead Author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Seventh Assessment Report (Working Group III) and previously served as a Lead Author for the Sixth Assessment Report (Working Group II) on impacts, adaptation, and vulnerability.

Professor Kalaba has led major research and consultancy initiatives across Africa, including carbon project development, climate vulnerability assessments, and climate finance programmes. He played a key leadership role in developing Zambia’s National Adaptation Plan and the SADC Great Green Wall National Action Programme, and facilitated the EU–Zambia Forest Partnership Roadmap signed at COP27. He has consulted for organisations such as the World Bank, Oxfam, and the United Nations, and was awarded the Environment and Climate Change Leadership Award for Research in 2021
